Bio

Dr Charles Mensa is the current Chief Executive Officer of Volta Aluminium Company Limited ("VALCO"), an Aluminium smelter based in the Republic of Ghana. Prior to assuming this position in October 2004, he had been Resident Director of VALCO since joining the company in April 1996. He worked in the United States as a Research Associate at the Centre for Public Choice at George Mason University and at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He also worked with the late Mr Ron Brown, formerly the United States Secretary of Commerce. Dr Mensa was the founder of the Institute of Economic Affairs in Accra and served as its first Managing Director from its inception in 1989 until 1996. He is its current Chairman. He is also the Board Chairman of Fan Milk Limited, Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, SAB Miller Ghana Limited, and Cape Coast University. A former Advisor to the President of Ghana, Dr Mensah is also a Director of Maersk Shipping Company. Dr Mensa holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and an MBA in Finance, both from the George Washington University, US, and a Doctorate degree in Economics from George Mason University, Virginia, US.
