Bio

Derrick Lee, a vice president in the Menlo Park, Calif. office, joined Bessemer in 2004. He focuses primarily on clean-tech and semiconductor investments. Between 2006 and 2007, Derrick spent a year developing Bessemer’s practice in Shanghai. He serves on the board of Summit Microelectronics and previously served on the board of BA Systems. He is a board observer with analog-EDA company Berkeley Design Automation; LED power-management company Exclara; thin-film solar company Miasole; PowerGenix, a maker of nickel-zinc rechargeable batteries; and Xtreme Power, a provider of utility-scale, energy-management solutions. Derrick is also involved with Bessemer's investments in fabless-semiconductor companies Avalanche Technology, Avnera and PA Semi (acquired by Apple); educational-services provider ChinaEDU (Nasdaq: CEDU); engine maker Pinnacle Engines, formerly known as Cleeves Engines; Siano Mobile Silicon, which develops silicon receivers for the mobile-digital TV market; and multi-core semiconductor company Tilera. Prior to joining Bessemer, Derrick was part of the sales team at Barcelona Design, an early-stage, design-automation software company. He also held senior technical and product management positions at Maxim Integrated Products. Derrick started his career as an analog circuit designer at Silicon Systems (acquired by Texas Instruments) and holds two U.S. patents. B.S in electrical engineering with highest distinction from the University of Virginia. M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University. MBA from Harvard Business School.
