Bio

Umesh Padval, a partner in Bessemer’s Menlo Park, Calif. office, joined the firm in 2007. At Bessemer, he focuses on the IT and clean-tech sectors. Currently, Umesh sits on the boards of Avnera, a fabless analog-semiconductor company; low-power, non-volatile magnetic-memory company Avalanche Technologies; Berkeley Design Automation, an analog EDA company; Pinnacle Engines, formerly known as Cleeves Engines, which makes internal-combustion engines; Powergenix, a maker of nickel-zinc rechargeable batteries; LED power-management company Exclara; and utility-scale, energy-management company Xtreme Power. He also sits on the boards of semiconductor companies Entropic Communications (NASDAQ: ENTR), Integrated Device Technology (NASDAQ: IDTI) and Monolithic Power Systems (NADSAQ:MPS). Umesh was previously on the boards of C-Cube Microsystems, Elantec Semiconductor and Pictos Technologies. Umesh brings to Bessemer more than 20 years of experience in marketing, sales and general management in areas including computing, mobile communications and consumer-digital entertainment. He joined Bessemer from LSI Logic, where he was executive vice-president of the consumer-products group. Umesh came to LSI Logic via its acquisition of C-Cube, a public company where he served as president and CEO. Previously, Umesh held management positions at VLSI Technology, serving as executive vice-president of the consumer and computing products groups. He began his career at Advanced Micro Devices. Umesh also has extensive global work experience, having established R&D centers in both China and India starting in the late 1990s. Bachelor’s of technology from the Indian Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University.
