Was a Managing Partner of Actis, one of the largest emerging markets private equity fund managers, until his retirement in 2005. Prior to Actis, worked for CDC, the emerging markets investor, and in corporate finance in London and New York for BZW and Kleinwort Benson. Currently Chairman of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Chairman of the Trustees of the CDC Pension Fund, Chairman of SPW, the international youth charity, a Trustee and Treasurer of Practical Action and a member of VSO’s UK Committee. Stepped down at the end of 2008 as Chairman of Aureos, the leading small cap emerging markets private equity fund manager, as an adviser to the $100m Actis Africa Agribusiness Fund and as Treasurer of the Royal Africa Society. Educated at Oxford University and London Business School.
