Rich has 19 years of experience in all phases of private equity investing, focused primarily in the energy industry. Prior to co-founding Blue Tip Energy, Rich worked for 17 years at The Hillman Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – one of the nation’s most active private equity investors since the 1970’s. During his last five years at Hillman, Rich was a member of executive management, running their diversified energy portfolio. Over the last decade, Rich has managed 14 energy investments, achieving a strong track record of value-creation in several strategies. He has extensive experience in energy investment and portfolio management, operations, due diligence, sourcing negotiated investment transactions and building successful operating groups. Some of the investment-specific operating teams Rich helped assemble have gone on to become key managers at other established energy-focused private equity funds. In addition, Rich has considerable hands- on operating experience in the energy industry, having led the turn-around of several portfolio investments earlier in his career. He has also served as the senior officer and board member of several energy industry companies and has been responsible for the management of more than $400 million of invested capital from multiple investors. Over the last several years, Rich also sourced and managed several energy-focused private equity fund relationships for Hillman. This experience provides an uncommonly deep knowledge of the competitive landscape of the energy-focused private equity world. Rich received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics from Saint Vincent College and has earned more than 60 credits while pursuing graduate business studies at Duquesne University and Baldwin Wallace University. Rich lives in Pittsburgh with his wife of 23 years and two teenage children.
