Bio

Bill Rosoff is President of Advanta Corp. and Vice Chairman of Advanta Corp.'s Board of Directors. He joined Advanta in January 1996. Prior to joining Advanta, Mr Rosoff was a long time leader of the law firm of Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen, where he advised Advanta for over 20 years. While at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen, Mr Rosoff served, at different times, as Chairman of its Executive Committee and Chairman of its Tax Department. Mr Rosoff represented a wide variety of clients, including public and large privately held companies operating in the United States and internationally, partnerships and joint ventures, estates, trusts, individual entrepreneurs, investors and executives. Examples of the clients' businesses included financial services, real estate, venture capital, manufacturing and beverage distribution. Mr Rosoff served on the Tax Advisory Boards of Commerce Clearing House, Little Brown and Company, and Warren, Gorham and Lamont's Journal of Partnership Taxation, and on the Legal Activities Policy Board of Tax Analysts. He is a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel and has served as an advisor to the Treasury Department. He also served on the Advisory Group for the American Law Institute's ongoing Federal Income Tax Project; served as a Consultant for the ALI's Study of the Taxation of Private Business Enterprises (ALI 1999), and from 1976 to 1982 served as a Consultant and Associate Reporter for American Law Institute's Proposals for the Taxation of Partners (ALI 1984, Lib. of Cong. Cat, cd. No. 83-46174). While practicing law he spoke extensively on tax matters in a variety of forums, including the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service and Harvard Law School. Mr Rosoff graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1967, where he was an Editor of the Law Review. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Temple University in 1964. He is a member of the Order of the Coif, and Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi honor fraternities. He was law clerk to the Honorable Abraham L. Freedman, Circuit Judge US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, 1967-68.
